Thida believes that her spirits and the viewers’ can be touched and shared through works of art.“When people recognize my work, for me it’s a success,” she said. “I cherish it when people walking around a gallery can tell which paintings are mine. It doesn’t bother me whether they like them or not. When people can locate my paintings, that’s an achievement.”Her unique style and techniques have also been the subject of criticism. But Thida is no rebel. Art is free and subjective. She admits that basic skills are needed and beginners should learn to master those skills before discovering and expressing their unique self through art. There are no rules on how to interpret and express an object and how to project the artist’s self, feelings and emotions because people have different ways to see, feel, interpret and express the world. She loves to stick to her own style and is happy to find the right combinations to project herself into her works. The key to her artistic success is sincerity to herself and others. She expresses her feelings through her works with no worries or fears.Her master, Thongchai Rakpat- hum, a Thai National Artist in Visual Arts, once said “never intend your art for a commercial purpose”. Responding to that, Thida once asked what artists by profession should eat if they can’t sell their work. She recalled her first exhibition with a smile and said that while she tried to sell her works, none of them sold. Later when her works became more known, she sold many.
