Just fifteen minutes from Phuket International Airport and an array of the island’s attractions, the Meliá Phuket Mai Khao is at the same time a very private and tantalising beachfront haven where you can bask in lavish luxury and wellness-inspired facilities.

Situated on eight lush, secluded acres on Phuket’s 11-kilometre-long Mai Khao Beach, this 5-star retreat that just opened in December 2021 reflects a blend of traditional and contemporary Thai and Mediterranean aesthetics. Its soothing palette of colours complement the white sand beach stretching along the island’s north-western Andaman coastline. High ceilings and decorative metal screens further enhance the tropical, natural ambience.

The accommodations comprise 30 one-bedroom suites and 70 one-bedroom villas distinguished by an anchoring amenity. All feature outdoor bathtubs, open-air showers and outdoor terraces. Exquisite gardens and fixtures such as white stucco exterior walls also ensure secluded enclaves and the utmost privacy. Mod cons include individually controlled air-conditioning, 43-inch LCD TV with satellite channels, Bluetooth speaker, Nespresso coffee maker with gourmet capsules and more. The 15 highest end wellness villas also offer an open-air Vitamin C shower, ultrasonic essential oil diffuser and GermGuardian air purifier. Another highlight of staying in a wellness villa is a daily 60-minute massage.

For dining and refreshment, the Meliá Phuket Mai Khao provides a diverse landscape, beginning with the Gaia Beach Club adjacent to a beach pool serving Mediterranean and fusion cuisine from an open kitchen as well as creative cocktails from the long bar. For a more intimate meal, SASA, an elegant, all-day restaurant, specialises in healthy, delectable Thai and international dishes. And then there’s the very comfortable Elyxr Café where you can sit back and enjoy a rich, robust coffee or your selection of tea. Finally, at the centre of the resort is the Swim-up Pool Bar at Luna Pool serving blissful refreshments from fresh juices and smoothies to rejuvenating and exotic cocktails.

If or when you want to indulge your senses, the therapists of Meliá Hotels International signature YHI Spa are waiting to cater to your every whim with an extensive menu of massages, facials, body scrubs and wraps. In addition to the five treatment rooms in this 300sqm facility, guests can also enjoy these services poolside or in their private villa. They can also purchase comprehensive wellness packages that include healthy menus and activities such as meditation, yoga, walks and cycling amid very stunning scenery.

There is also the fully equipped Fitness Center with treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes and weight machines for those who want a little more exercise, and to keep your children occupied when you want to enjoy these facilities, there is Kidsdom offering workshops to keep them entertained as well as a babysitting service.

The Meliá Phuket Mai Khao also features a host of conference facilities including a grand ballroom that can cater to up to 100 guests at a cocktail reception or 88 for a luxury sit-down dinner and two additional multi-function rooms that can comfortably accommodate 16 guests.

As Ms Magdalena Martorell, Meliá Phuket Mai Khao’s general manager, explained, “The team and I are thrilled we could bring such a significant hotel debut to fruition during these unprecedented times, and we’re delighted with the interest in our resort so far despite the difficulties stemming from the global pandemic.”
