December 2020 / January 2021
The holiday season is upon us, and one gift that has already been given to humanity are the coronavirus vaccines. As they are now beginning to be distributed, they are offering us a new light at the end of the dark tunnel we have been facing for the past year.
With this optimism, this issue of Elite+ has for you a number of articles looking to the future, beginning with our cover story, an interview with Arnon Tangstitporn, co-founder of Ayodia ROP, during which he explains what he and his company are doing to become global players in Information Technology (IT). Continuing with this theme, our Country Portrait piece tells about a new and innovative virtual international rights fair web-platform. Motivated by the restrictions imposed because of the Covid-19 pandemic, this application could still become vital for the survival of many of the smaller players involved in intellectual property (IP) rights, particularly in the less developed countries, as it makes it possible to actively participate in events without having to incur the costs of travel.
Elite+ was also very fortunate to sit down with Vietnam’s Ambassador Nguyen Hai Bang just before he completed his tenure in the Kingdom to discuss the strengthening ties between his country and Thailand and the opportunities still available to interested Thai entrepreneurs. He is followed by an interview with Dr Abhisak Chulya, founder of Nipa Technology, as he discusses future trends in IT technology and bringing cloud computing to Thailand as well as countries around the globe. After this, we take another look at franchising with Supak Muennikorn and see how this is becoming a trend for not just international brands to expand, but also Thai businesses, particularly in the CLMV, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
From here, we turn our attention to travel and luxury living while we still cannot venture beyond the Thai borders. We start with the beauty offered by the north, visiting Ban Khun Pae, in the Chiang Mai mountains and end at the Andaman gem, Ko Phayam, straddling the maritime Thai—Myanmar border in our Photo Essay, reminding us how much there still is to discover right here. Later, in our Adventure column, Pongpol Adireksarn completes his exploration of Sulawesi, which will leave you feeling some excitement about future travel.
Meanwhile, we take a look at the 5-star Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok and Bangkok’s Water Library restaurants, affording those living in the capital very convenient premium venues to indulge your senses. We also talk with Madame Maria del Carmen Rehren, former ambassador of Panama to Thailand and current wife of the ambassador of Chile to Thailand, as she shares her impressions of Thailand from these different perspectives.
Even with all this good life, in our Health column, Dr Pisuth Lertvilai reminds us we cannot become complacent but must remain vigilant to protect ourselves and loved ones and prevent the spread of Covid-19, and then on a positive note, Anchalee Vivathanachai tells of a boy being taught to never give up in her short story, “The Hand That Can Sail Across the Seven Seas”.
To conclude, on behalf of all of us at Elite+, may I wish you and your loved ones a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. May the holidays bring you all joy.
