My que“sport teacher gave me the only flaws in my score report because I refused to use their uniform while having sports lessons outdoors.”This social stigma, however, is changing. “It is totally different now. Women with jilbab are becoming models, movie stars or idols. Problems at school still occur but many girls are wearing jilbab at school. A lot of hijabers have reached high academic achievement. Stylists write hijab tutorials and they sell well.”Despite her career as a well known writer, Ms Nadia hasn’t written any books about the jilbab. Nevertheless, as a woman who loves travelling, she has been to 269 cities in 60 countries – mostly as a solo backpacker – and has been called “the jilbab traveller”. Despite many misperceptions about Muslims and terrorism, she insists that wearing the hijab she hardly faced any negative experiences and the foreignlook often helped her find cordiality from locals along the way.Although there is not a single rule for whether or not to wear a hijab, Ms Nadia thinks every Muslim woman should at least have the fundamental freedom of choice.“I can understand the different points of views about wearing a hijab but what if this is what they want? In my case, I’m not wearing a hijab because my parents or husband have taught me so. I’m wearing it as I believe that it’s in the Qur’an and what is in the Qur’an is best for you. However, my question is if we never say no for allowing people to wear a miniskirt, tank-top or bikini, why not a jilbab too? Isn’t it a right for a human to choose the way they want to live? I strongly believe the hijab only covers your head, but not your brain.”stion is ifwe never say no forallowing people to wear a miniskirt, tank-top or bikini, why not”a jilbab too?Elite+ 57
