When you were young, did you need to practise a lot or did you just sing? The only organized practice I had when I was young was participating in my school and church choir. I was and always will be fascinated by Whitney Houston. I also used to listen to Cher, Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner. I mimicked their performances on television and was in awe at how they were received by their audiences. I learned a lot from them and many others that came after. Although I had no formal training, I feel the standards I set for myself are practice in itself. What genre do you like best?If I had to choose, it would be pop and R&B. As I mentioned, I love every genre of music, however the majority of Whitney Houston’s songs fell into the pop category and I love and admire the way the songs were written, delivered and what she did for that particular genre. How many albums have you made?I have one original album released in 2008. However, that was before I began in Bangkok, so it isn’t that popular. I have three albums made up of cover tunes from artists such as Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson,Whitney Houston and Tina Turner. I compiled a list of requests during each residency and put them into album form and made them available during my performances. This CD is my most popular among the four albums. How do you compare teaching and singing? They’re very different. I like to be able to give the younger generation tips and techniques on how to use their voice. However, I love singing and performing to live audiences. There’s honestly no greater feeling.‘It’s as if I’m coming home each time I perform here in Thailand’Elite+ 67
