Kraton Flying Chicken RestaurantIt involves a catapult, helmets, metal sticks and unicycles – quite an adventure. Your order, a whole barbecue chicken hot off the grill and still flaming, is shot by catapult and (hopefully) caught far off by a waiter on a unicycle. It may land in his hands, on his head or in his mouth equipped with metal sticks, before being delivered to your table by unicycle. The idea, brainchild of the owner, Sab, comes from Vikings using catapults in battle, with birds standing in for deadly projectiles. Drops of hot oil might splash onto the waiters, but if asked they assure you they’re having fun! You might even get to catch a bird yourself if you ask.So how does it taste? Served with hot and spicy sauce, the chicken marinated in Chinese spices has crispy skin and soft juicy meat, living up to the lofty reputation of Thai kai yang (grilled chicken). You can also order everyday Thai food and signature dishes such as frog meat. Disclaimer: this is a drinking crowd of friend and family fun time, not gourmet dining. Oh, and karaoke maniacs too. While enjoying your freshly caught chicken, don’t forget to applaud the waiter’s acrobatics even if he happens to drop one.Km 1 on Bang Na-Trat Road, opposite Bitec; 5pm-1am; 02-399-5202, 02-399-3557.Elite+ 53
