MGM Launches First Overseas Promotional Campaign In Thailand

In a bid to expand international tourism to Macau, MGM has embarked on its first large-scale overseas promotional campaign in Thailand. Running from 13 to 29 June, this campaign aims to attract Southeast Asian tourists by showcasing Macau's unique blend of cultural tourism, culinary excellence and pioneering entertainment.

The campaign commenced with the "Magnificent Gala Master" dinner on 13 June at Rosewood Bangkok, which was attended by 150 distinguished guests, including government officials, business leaders and celebrities from both Macau and Thailand. The event featured a fusion of Macau and Thai cuisines and performances by Thai singer Wichayanee Pearklin (Gam) and Macau's Germano Guilherme, showcasing MGM's dedication to art and entertainment.

Pansy Ho, Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, highlighted the significance of the campaign, saying, “MGM has always upheld the onus to support the Macau government’s efforts in elevating the city's cultural tourism economy on the global stage. Building on the foundations of deep mutual understanding and the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, the future between Thailand and Macau will be bright.”

Hubert Wang, President & Chief Operating Officer of MGM China Holdings Limited, noted that Thailand is not only the largest market in Southeast Asia for MGM, but also the fastest-growing overseas market. He pointed out that the increase in direct flights between Bangkok and Macau, along with performances by popular Thai artists at MGM, has led to a nearly 30% rise in Thai guests staying at MGM compared to the previous year. This growth reflects the strong appeal of both MGM and Macau to Thai tourists.

The "MGM Travel Trade Luncheon" on 14 June at the Glass House, Nai Lert Park Heritage Home, featured MGM's latest tourism offerings, including the upcoming Poly MGM Art Museum in Macau and the MGM 2049 residency show by renowned filmmaker Zhang Yimou. Attendees enjoyed a live cooking demonstration by Macanese celebrated chef Florita Alves and a traditional Portuguese folk dance performance.

Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying, “Thailand ranks fifth among Macao’s top international visitors’ source markets. More importantly, it shows that in the first five months of this year, Thai visitor arrivals to Macao increased by 203%, compared to the same period last year. We are enthusiastic to see MGM synchronise its promotional efforts with the Macao Government Tourism Office’s annual large-scale promotion to meet Thai travel trade and consumers in Bangkok, creating more synergies to engage Thai travellers of different profiles with our destination.”
