National Day Message from HE Elchin Bashirov
Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Thailand
Each year on 28 May, we celebrate Independence Day, which marks a significant moment in the history of the Azerbaijani people. On 28 May 1918, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was established, and the independence of Azerbaijan was declared to the world. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was the continuation of the centuries-old statehood traditions of our people. It was the first republic in the entire Muslim world. Women were granted the right to vote for the first time in the Muslim East. Although the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic existed only for 23 months, it laid a solid foundation for the restoration of our independence in 1991 by instilling sentiments in the Azerbaijani people for freedom and independence.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Thailand were established on 7 July 1992. Over the past 33 years, we have witnessed a growing friendship between our countries based on mutual respect and confidence. The opening of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Thailand in 2024 was a momentous event in the history of our relations. We have a reciprocal interest and will to strengthen our cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels in the fields of mutual interest, including trade, investment, tourism, green energy and food security. Both Azerbaijan and Thailand share a commitment to multilateralism and international law.
We look forward to working with our partners from Thailand to further strengthen our bilateral relations with a view to bringing prosperity and well-being to our peoples.
Happy Independence Day!
