Swedish National Day 2025 Message
Kära vänner, Dear Friends, Sawasdee ka,
On the occasion of the Kingdom of Sweden’s National Day, I extend my warmest wishes to Swedes in Thailand and to all friends of Sweden, near and far.
Since 1983, we have marked the sixth of June to honour key moments in our history, most importantly the election of King Gustav Vasa in 1523, laying the foundation of modern Sweden as a sovereign country. On the same date, we also commemorate the adoption of our constitution in 1809, an important step towards a democratic governance system. Today, we celebrate not only these milestones but also the values they represent: self-determination, democracy, equality, human rights, rule of law and good governance. We are proud of our country and Sweden’s contribution to the global family of nations.
This day is also an opportunity to celebrate the deep and enduring friendship between Sweden and Thailand. Our 157 years of diplomatic relations have grown into strong partnerships and close collaboration in many areas of common interest. Sweden and Thailand share a strong belief in a rules-based international order and the global benefits of free and fair trade. Our relations are built on trust and cover all parts of our societies – from the Royal Houses and political contacts to commercial and academic relations as well as to strong and broad people-to-people bonds.
Celebrating the National Day of Sweden, we also look forward to enhancing our cooperation with Thailand for a prosperous and sustainable common future.
Happy Swedish National Day to everyone celebrating in Thailand and around the world!
H.E. Mrs. Anna Hammargren
Ambassador of Sweden to Thailand
