Message on the National Day of the State of Kuwait

In 2026, the State of Kuwait commemorates two defining milestones in its modern history: the 65th anniversary of its independence and the 35th anniversary of its liberation from the Iraqi invasion. These historic occasions stand as enduring symbols of the resilience, unity and determination of the Kuwaiti people. They also reflect the invaluable support extended by friendly and brotherly nations, including the Kingdom of Thailand, during pivotal moments in Kuwait’s history.

This year also marks the 63rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Thailand. Over more than six decades, bilateral ties have steadily evolved, grounded in mutual respect, shared interests and a common aspiration for sustainable development and prosperity.

Economic cooperation continues to serve as a cornerstone of this partnership. In 2025, total trade exchange between the two countries reached approximately USD 854 million, underscoring the depth of economic engagement and strong potential for further expansion. This robust trade performance reflects growing confidence within the private sectors of both nations and highlights promising opportunities for diversified collaboration.

People-to-people connections further reinforce these ties. Thailand remains a favoured destination for Kuwaiti travellers, with more than 87,000 Kuwaiti visitors recorded in 2025. The steady increase in tourism reflects not only Thailand’s appeal as a centre for leisure, medical services and hospitality, but also the strong bonds of friendship linking the peoples of the two countries.

Under its national development vision, “New Kuwait”, Kuwait is pursuing comprehensive reforms aimed at transforming the country into a regional and international financial and commercial hub. Over the past two years, significant legislative and economic initiatives have strengthened the investment climate. Foreign ownership in the Kuwaiti market has reached approximately nine percent, with foreign investments exceeding USD 27 billion, demonstrating an annual growth rate of around 18 percent. These indicators highlight Kuwait’s commitment to fostering a competitive, transparent and dynamic economic environment.

Within this framework, Kuwait welcomes greater engagement from Thai partners and investors in promising sectors of the Kuwaiti market. Through dedicated channels such as the Direct Investment Promotion Authority, the country seeks to facilitate direct investment and encourage mutually beneficial ventures that contribute to shared growth.

Beyond bilateral cooperation, Kuwait places strong emphasis on international collaboration and development partnerships. The country firmly believes that sustainable development constitutes a fundamental pillar for achieving long-term stability and prosperity. Guided by a spirit of responsibility and solidarity, Kuwait has actively worked toward fulfilling its international commitments under the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

Since its establishment in 1961, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development has played a significant role in supporting development initiatives in more than 100 countries worldwide. Through concessional loans, grants and technical assistance, the Fund has contributed to infrastructure development, strengthened healthcare and education systems, and addressed environmental challenges, reflecting Kuwait’s enduring commitment to global development efforts.

On this meaningful occasion, the State of Kuwait reaffirms its dedication to strengthening cooperation with Thailand across all priority sectors. It also expresses its sincere appreciation to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, the Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand for their continued friendship and partnership.
