The Republic of Kosovo Celebrates 18th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence

On the 17th of February, the Republic of Kosovo proudly marks its Independence Day. This year, we celebrate 18 years of statehood, reflecting on a journey defined by resilience, determination and a clear vision for the future.

Over the past eighteen years, the Republic of Kosovo has made significant progress in strengthening its democratic institutions, advancing the rule of law and building a modern society. Today, Kosovo remains firmly committed to peace, regional stability and the promotion of democratic values.

The relationship between the Republic of Kosovo and the Kingdom of Thailand is built on mutual respect, friendship and shared values. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in November 2013, our two countries have steadily strengthened our ties through dialogue and collaboration, laying a solid foundation for deeper engagement.

The Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Thailand was opened in September 2019, and the official inauguration took place in June 2022 in a ceremony presided over by the President of the Republic of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani Sadriu. The visit of the Kosovo President to the Kingdom of Thailand marked an important milestone in our bilateral relations as it conveyed a strong message of friendship and political will to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors.

Our bilateral relations have continued to grow and diversify, encompassing political dialogue, trade, cultural and people to people exchange. There has been a growing number of tourists from Kosovo visiting Thailand, and a diverse cultural program has been pursued, making important contributions to the promotion of our closer relations. To bolster the relationship between the Republic of Kosovo and the Kingdom of Thailand further, the first round of political consultations will take place in Prishtina this year.

Looking ahead, Kosovo aims to develop agreements that facilitate increased trade and investment flows between our countries. We recognise the significant potential to deepen economic cooperation with Thailand, particularly in areas of trade and investment. With Kosovo’s dynamic economy, strategic location in Southeast Europe and a young, educated population, numerous opportunities exist for Thai businesses and investors to thrive.

As we celebrate the 18th Anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Kosovo, we reaffirm our strong belief in the continued strengthening of our bilateral relations, promoting shared prosperity and well-being for the peoples of both nations.

Happy Kosovo Independence Day!
