French National Day
I am pleased to address the readers of Elite+ magazine on the occasion of the celebration of the French National Day, July 14th.This comes in a particular context.
First of all, the commemoration in 2026 is the 170th anniversary of the signing in 1856 of the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation, by which our two countries established their diplomatic relations in the modern era. To mark this important milestone, Their Majesties the King and the Queen paid a State Visit to France from the 28th of June to the 1st of July, responding to an invitation by President Emmanuel Macron. This historic visit provided an opportunity to highlight our long-time relations and the relevance of our current partnership. One month earlier, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul was in Paris where he had a fruitful meeting with President Macron.
On the 3rd of July, I was delighted to sign with HE Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, a new Franco-Thai action plan for 2026-2028, reaffirming our shared goal of ultimately elevating our relationship to a strategic partnership.
My term as French Ambassador to Thailand will come to an end on the 16th of July. I therefore take this opportunity to thank our Thai partners for everything we could achieve together during the past three years, and I extend my best wishes to Elite + readers.
